Manchester United transfer gossip and latest news RECAP: Van Gaal storms out of press conference

How much longer does Louis van Gaal have at United? According to a host of newspaper columnists, it's a matter of days, perhaps even hours, before he gets his marching orders.

United are in a terrible run of form - they've lost their last three and haven't won in six. It's the kind of sequence the Reds simply can't tolerate.

Jose Mourinho, dismissed himself by Chelsea last week, says he wants another job as quickly as possible. Given he coveted the position when Sir Alex Ferguson retired, he's now favourite to succeed Van Gaal, should the Dutchman get the boot.

Stay with us here for all the latest on that, as well as reported interest in Real Madrid's Gareth Bale.

United fans at last saw an attack. It was just a shame it happened in the press conference room at Carrington rather than on the pitch at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal spoke for just four minutes and 58 seconds at his press briefing ahead of the visit to Stoke on Boxing Day before walking out.

Patrice N Hall | Don't Pay Full Price for Auto Insurance

Patrice N Hall - Auto Insurance
If you haven't comparison-shopped for auto insurance in several years, you'd probably be surprised to see how many ways insurance companies have come up with to get your business. That means they're dangling all sorts of discounts that will let you save on premiums.

Seeing that data-driven businesses, providers review scads involving info on mishaps and boasts, and they also realize the attributes involving policyholders who document fewer boasts. This enables the crooks to build brand new credits and discount rates to help attract more secure individuals, although in addition supporting the crooks to inspire current policyholders to scale back mishaps and boasts.

You may find it's quite worth the effort to shop around for auto insurance, especially if you've replaced your vehicle with a newer one recently or bought a home. For example, some carriers now offer an auto insurance discount if you own a home. And of course, if you insure both your home and auto with one insurer, it will likely offer an additional multi-policy discount on top of that.
If you've recently replaced your car, it can pay to check for safe vehicle discounts, such as for anti theft devices, anti lock brakes, daytime running lights and other accident warning and avoidance technologies.
Another new discount is for "green vehicles" hybrids or alternative fuel cars. Among insurers offering a green vehicle discount are Allstate, Farmers and Liberty Mutual.
Not new at all, but always welcome are discounts for good drivers. These are for drivers with a clean record free of moving violations such as speeding, reckless driving and DUI. Also, drivers who avoid at-fault accidents get discounts from almost all insurance carriers. Some also offer "claim-free discounts" to drivers who don't get in accidents and don't file claims for extended periods.
A newer category is the "usage-based discount," often also called the "save-as-you-drive" program. The requirement here is that you agree to have your driving monitored to prove you're a safe driver. You have to connect a telematics device to your car that records data about your driving and sends it to the insurance company.
The information includes how fast you drive, how quickly you accelerate/decelerate and how many times a day you drive. Drivers with safe behavior, as determined by the gathered information, can get discounts as high as 30 percent.

Finally, here are three discounts that most auto insurance carriers offer and almost anyone can qualify for. Make sure to ask for these:

Defensive driver: Most insurance companies offer a discount of up to 15 percent if you've recently completed a defensive-driving course.

Full payment: If you forgo installments and pay your annual premium at once, you could save 5 percent to 10 percent.

Paperless billing and automatic payment: Sign up to have your payment automatically deducted from an account and elect to receive only electronic statements, bills and policy notices. That will typically take an additional 5 percent off.

What an Insurance Executive Taught Me About Liberal Arts Colleges

I was flying across country last week to do some consulting with my alma mater, Haverford College, to help them think about how they might expand the ways they support off-campus learning opportunities for their students. After almost four hours of silence, my seatmate launched into a mini-tutorial about his long career and how his industry is shifting so quickly now because of new laws, regulations, technologies, and market pressures. I wasn't sure where he was headed and listened carefully as he described the complicated landscape he had to navigate.
"Hey, I saw on your computer that you work at Whitman. That's a good college. I went to a liberal arts college, back in Marietta, Ohio. You know..." He paused for a moment, and then said, "we're always going to need schools like those."

Intrigued, I asked what he meant.

I laughed and understood his point that the intellectual skill set, curiosity and persistence that he developed as a college student was the foundation for a lot of what he was able to accomplish later, in several different industries, in highly voluble environments.

We spent about 20 minutes on our laptops searching for the source of this frequently quoted figure. In the process we learned that nine percent of these CEOs went to private liberal arts colleges, like his and mine, despite the fact that graduates of those schools constitute only four percent of all undergraduates (the others are from public colleges and universities). I asked him why he thought that businesses bring in so many graduates from this tiny number of institutions. He did not hesitate:

I laughed again and thought about my trip. In a recent list, Whitman and Haverford were ranked #1 and #2 for offering "collaborative environments." It's not just those two schools, though. So much of what happens at liberal arts colleges, especially those with residential campuses, involves an enormous amount of collaboration with other students, faculty, administrators, off-campus partners, alumni, and others.
"Nope," he wrapped up, as we started our descent, "these places are never going away. I can't stand reading those stories"
While it is likely true that some colleges and universities may not endure, the teaching of a broad non-professional curriculum will always be needed. All across the country, small liberal arts colleges like Marietta and Haverford and Whitman and dozens of others are doing excellent work supporting our students so they can achieve their post-graduation goals. As my seatmate reminded me, the dynamic and shifting 21st century needs those smart, creative, collaborative and tenacious young people with whom we get to work for four extraordinary years.

Tips to Improve Your Risk Management - Patrice N Hall

For years security vendors have been able to play off the general fears of malware and cyber attacks. They’ve advised that if we just bought this product we’d be more secure. As the scope of protecting data has become more complex, we’ve slowly learned that deploying more security controls alone is not a risk management solution.

At Travelers adjusted workers compensation claims primarily questionable and complex. Expanded knowledge by adjusting Longshore claims. Additionally, adjusted catastrophic property claims  (in season). Next Patrice N Hall , joined a national staffing company, Snelling Staffing, as the Safety and Risk Analyst for all states. There managed a TPA, and coordinated safety training. In 2013 found employ at DFW International Airport as Claims Manager. While at DFW selected a new risk information system (RMIS), Origami Risk. Currently implementing a RMIS for the airport inclusive of claims management, safety and enterprise risk management components. Tips For Claims Management - Patrice N Hall

Tips For Claims Management - Patrice N Hall

As a claims manager my goal was always to return the employee to their per-injury job with no restrictions and no risk of further injury. Employers should always develop a clear goal for injured employees with reasonable time frames. Once the rehabilitation plan has been developed and signed off it becomes the employer’s responsibility to ensure the plan is executed. In other words, the employer must manage the claim.

Received a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Area Studies from Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas in 2005. Worked in customer service/telecommunications for AT&T wireless for before entering the insurance industry in 2007 as a workers' compensation adjuster with Liberty Mutual Insurance.  In that role I adjusted claims for Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. After that, went to a growing insurance company and adjusted workers compensation claims for 10 states. The focus was primarily on PEO, construction and assigned risks. A wealth of knowledge was obtained in enrolling small companies in Texas HCNs. In 2012 began work at Travelers Insurance as an investigator.
